Iowa becomes the 17th state to join the Stop RCV movement

by Staff

Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds has signed a bill banning ranked-choice voting, making Iowa the seventeenth state to prohibit the election system known for eliminating ballots, creating longer lines at the polls, and delaying results. The bill, House File 954, also establishes voter identification numbers.

Jason Snead and Trent England, the co-chairmen of the national Stop Ranked-Choice Voting Coalition, thanked Gov. Reynolds and Iowa legislators for standing up for election integrity:

“Thank you, legislators and Gov. Kim Reynolds, for pushing HF 954 over the finish line. Iowa voters deserve secure and fair elections, and this bill delivers by improving voter verification methods and banning RCV statewide.” - Jason Snead, co-chairman of the Stop RCV Coalition and executive director of the Honest Elections Project

“States are racing to ban RCV. Since 2022, 17 states have prohibited it, with six states taking action just this year. I commend Iowa's leaders for safeguarding voters from needless complexity and potential disenfranchisement.”- Trent England, co-chairman of the Stop RCV Coalition and executive director of Save Our States

States are moving quickly to ban the system, cities are rejecting it, and repeal movements are gaining momentum across the country. If this trend continues, ranked-choice voting may soon be banned in half the states. It appears to be headed for the dustbin of history — good riddance.
