Basics of RCV

The Status of Ranked-Choice Voting

RCV is harder for voters and election administrators. Yet a massive, nationwide campaign is pushing RCV at every level. The Stop RCV Coalition stands for simple, fair, transparent elections. In 2022 and 2023, five states banned RCV, with another six enacting bans in 2024. As of the end of March 2025, three more states have banned RCV, bringing the total to 14. Just two states use RCV for state-level elections.
